Many countries have their own sign language, which is not derived from the spoken language and develops independently from it. In the Netherlands, the deaf community uses Dutch Sign Language (DSE), which gives the user just as many options as spoken Dutch. There are 5 varieties associated with 5 schools for the deaf, each with about 1,500 students. There have been elementary schools for the deaf since 1790. The sign Language of the Netherlands has developed from French Sign Language and some of his features are similar to American and British sign languages. It has a manual sistem for spelling and is a language currently in transition.
